A few weeks ago, I commented on Facebook that I was feeling underappreciated. Always quick with encouraging words, my friends sent hugs.
But one friend sent me this video, which had me in tears. I don’t know why I’ve hesitated to post it here, for all of you to see and share. But a conversation with an acquaintance last week, which had me doubting my own value and the job I do, brought it to the forefront of my mind again
For my friends, my readers, and all the others who feel underappreciated, especially those stay at home mothers out there.
Great video. SOrry you are feeling invisible — you certainly are not. Not only are you building the “cathedrals” in your children — but you also touch many other lives, esp. through you writing. But I’d also venture a guess that many of us feel invisible — as a single woman without children, I often feel like my “value” to society is downplayed because I’m not producing the next generation. The grass is always greener, right?
Good video! I think we all tend to feel invisible and under appreciated at one time or another in our lives, but I never thought to think that there is someone out there who always sees us and always thinks we’re doing a great job. I hope all of my children “want to want to come home”. And if they bring friends along, that they say to them “you’re going to love it there”. That would truly be the best gift of all!
I have that book. It’s amazing.
Along the same vein… go get this book:
The Quotidian Mysteries: Laundry, Liturgy and "Women's Work" (Madeleva Lecture in Spirituality)
It’s small and well written. You will love it and it will change so many things about how you view your day to day.
I used to have extra copies, but I think I gave them all away.
